The Fowler Grove Community Center is located at 11246 S Eagle Valley Rd Port Matilda, PA. It’s 25 minutes from State College and 30 minutes from Altoona. The Fowler Grove was initially donated to the Hannah Women’s Society by John D Beckwith Sr. The grounds were cleared and building erected to host events related to the Women’s Society functions, church picnics, family reunions, weddings, funerals, fundraising dinners, birthdays, and meetings. The building also served as the community center for elections over the life of the Women’s Society involvement. At the end of 2016, the Women’s Society elected to cease use of the facility and returned the Fowler Grove back to the children of John D Beckwith Sr. In keeping with the wishes of John D Beckwith Sr, the family pursued keeping the facility intact and operating as intended serving the local community. The family choose to incorporate and rename it to the Fowler Grove Community Center Inc. The intended purpose remains the same and can be reserved for use.
Today, the family remains focused on providing the community a place to gather for family related events in a clean and well kept facility. Inside, a full function kitchen with commercial double door refrigerator, ovens, double sinks, large counter-tops and many items to aid with your event can be found. The inside dining area comfortably seats 60-75 adults with tables and chairs. A fire place is also found at the front of the dining area. A great place to hold meetings, provide educational type training for area businesses, birthday parties, anniversary’s, weddings, graduations, funerals, and a host of other events.
Outside, the 4.6 acre grounds has a fire pit, pavilions for crafts or dining, small playground, horse shoe pits, tennis/basketball/volleyball area and a stage area. In 2021 the facility added a 6 stall shower house. The facility is perfect for family reunion’s, picnics and large gatherings. The facility has hosted several events such as a Community Yard Sale, Craft Show, Fall Festival and Soggy Bottom Motorbike Run.
